Who Is Dr. Dan?

“Dr. Dan” is Dan Freeman. Dan became interested in alternative fuels in the 1970’s while walking past the gas lines on his way to school. He read in Popular Mechanics and Hot Rod magazines that the Pinto, the Vega, the rotary engine and alcohol were going to save America.

Dan started experimenting with alcohol as fuel for lawnmowers and mini-bikes in the 70’s. He raced methanol sprint cars in the 80’s. During the 90’s Dan saw an opportunity to make a living and make a difference at the same time by doing CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicle conversions and he started selling CNG fuel.

Dan was a member of the Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition. The Coalition attempted to talk Dan into biodiesel but he said “No stinking way!” He saw it as just another way to perpetuate dirty diesel. But the Clean Cities Coalition was persistent and Dan eventually agreed. Today Dan views biodiesel to be the simplest and most perfect solution to dramatically clean up our environment, our economy, our standard of living and our political situation.

Dr. Dan’s Biodiesel (aka Dr. Dan’s Alternative Fuelwerks) has enjoyed great success, thanks to the huge grassroots movement in the Puget Sound area.  Puget Sound has the highest concentration of individual users in the nation, and Dr. Dan’s is fortunate to have the support of the Northwest Biodiesel Network, Biodiesel Now and the TDI Club, as well as the support of our local dealerships.
